Palmetto Bug vs. Cockroach: What’s the Difference?
Gnats typically live about 4 weeks, but they reproduce at a rapid pace. The sooner you get rid of them, the less chance they’ll lay eggs and stick around. The pesky critters are so invasive they may inhabit electrical outlets, hide under loose wallpaper, or in cracks the width of a credit card. Fleas get into the house on dogs, cats, old furniture, or even a person who is infested. Fleas cause a nuisance because they are blood-sucking biting pests.
For example, black beetle larvae such as the carpet beetle can do a lot of damage to upholstery in your home. Fleas are small brownish-black bugs commonly found in homes with pets. The tiny insects are known for their flattened bodies and long back legs, allowing them to jump long distances. Although they are dark brown, they appear black to the naked eye.
They are found in stores of grain, seed, rice, or corn and use their snouts to poke holes in these foods. Sometimes they will travel into a home from outside, but often they are already present in containers of grain at the time of purchase. Weevil larvae form inside kernels or grains and may go undetected until reaching their adult size about a month later. These larvae will spend the winter underground before emerging as adults in early spring. The black firefly is a fascinating insect that plays an important role in its ecosystem.
These beetles can also be quite aggressive and have been known to attack much larger animals, such as birds and mammals. They are nocturnal creatures attracted to light, which is how they often end up inside homes. While generally not harmful to humans, these Beetles can cause damage to crops and should be removed from the home if possible. These beetles are not considered a significant pest, but their resilience makes them a nuisance for homeowners. Some unique features of the diabolical ironclad beetle include its ability to withstand crushing force and its rugged, shiny exoskeleton. Given the right conditions, a single female can lay up to 100 eggs in her lifetime.

The song has also resonated with fans, many of whom see themselves in Charlotte’s struggles. One of the reasons that “Charlotte Sometimes” is such a beloved song is its eerie and moody atmosphere. The instrumentation is sparse and haunting, with a repetitive piano melody that sets the pace. The Cure’s second single about sleeping children, this time based on the children’s novel of the same name. Where “Primary” sounded agitated and urgent, “Charlotte Sometimes” is dreamy, romantic goth rock, a style the band would explore more deeply in later years. Robert Smith’s voice is treated with an echo, an effect that he seemed to be enamored of at the moment, judging by the other songs on this single.

“Alone,” one of six not-yet-released new songs in the show, opened the night with a typical-for-the-Cure long instrumental intro before Smith, handed a bouquet of roses by a fan as he arrived on stage, started to sing. Furthermore, the raw emotions conveyed through Robert Smith’s vocals and the band’s evocative instrumentation create an atmosphere that perfectly captures the melancholy and introspection prevalent in the song. It is this combination of lyrical depth and musical craftsmanship that makes “Charlotte Sometimes” a timeless piece of art.
More Songfacts:
Charlotte cries for herself and dreams of creating a wall around herself, highlighting her sense of isolation and loneliness. However, even in her sadness, there’s an undercurrent of love that permeates the song. On Tuesday night — “This is the end/ Of every song that we sing” — set a reflective tone for the rest of the famed goth rock band’s performance as attendees were taken through its 45-year history. A 12-inch single included a ten-minute live version of Faith featuring the dueling bass guitars of Smith and Simon Gallup. This version is lighter than the elpee version, in part because there was only the one direction to go, up. It’s still pretty scary, though, and passes quickly enough given that the original already stood at seven minutes.

NBA fans tuning into playoff basketball may have noticed the particular commercial featuring Oklahoma City Thunder players Chet Holmgren and Shai Gilgeous-Alexander looping ad nauseam during commercial breaks. He walked to stage right and bowed slightly to the fans, and then did the same on the left. He walked into the wings, but the cheers and applause brought him back for a moment, hesitating still. Robert Smith stood onstage Tuesday evening and let the final notes of the Cure’s “A Night Like This” — in which the 64-year-old goth-rock icon promises, “I want to change” — ring out over the capacity crowd at the Hollywood Bowl. Like Charlotte, I often find solace in my dreams, where I can escape the pressures and expectations of reality. The idea of different identities and the longing for a different world echoed in the song’s bridge strikes a chord with my own feelings of searching for where I truly belong.
They represent the rigid constraints that society puts on us, the limitations that prevent us from fully expressing ourselves. The idea of the dreamer waking up in an alternate reality is something that everyone can relate to, as we all experience moments of feeling like we don’t belong. The lyrics paint a vivid picture of someone going to bed and feeling overwhelmed by the sameness of everything around them.
Singer-songwriter Robert Smith is still one of the best at capturing the power of rock 'n' roll's emotions and depths.
In the final verse, the lyrics allude to Charlotte’s longing for something or someone that is lost, as tears pour down her face. The mention of a girl who died many years before suggests that Charlotte carries the weight of past traumas and that her dreams serve as a refuge from her pain. The chorus further emphasizes the dreamlike nature of the song, as Charlotte Sometimes finds solace in her dreams where other people dance. The repetition of the line “Sometimes I’m dreaming” reinforces the idea that Charlotte often retreats into her own imagination to escape the harshness of reality.

As a fan of The Cure, “Charlotte Sometimes” has always held a special place in my heart. The haunting melody and introspective lyrics resonate with me on a deeper level, reminding me of my own experiences of feeling disconnected from the world around me. The white walls that Charlotte sees in the opening lines of the song represent the rigid constraints that society puts on us, the limitations that prevent us from fully expressing ourselves. Charlotte is trapped in this world, unable to break free from the walls that confine her. Its themes of isolation and disorientation are universal, and its haunting beauty has stood the test of time. The white walls that Charlotte sees in the opening lines of the song are also symbolic.
An ad for AT&T titled "What A Pro Wants" is being dubbed by some as "the worst commercial in history" after airing excessively, but maybe that is what the phone and internet provider wanted. That melancholy lifted with bigger, bolder rock numbers (“Burn,” “Primary,” and especially “Shake Dog Shake”) and slower, wistful plaints (“Charlotte Sometimes,” “From the Edge of the Deep Green Sea”). As the final notes of the anthemic “Boys Don’t Cry” echoed and the band departed, Smith lingered on stage for a couple more minutes, holding his hand to his heart as if it was about to jump out of his chest. Produced by Michael Hedges and The Cure; “Faith (recorded live)” produced by Chris Parry. The top chant artist in the Western world, Krishna Das talks about how these Hindu mantras compare to Christian worship songs.
The light is too bright, and the walls are too white, creating a sense of unease and discomfort. The second encore delivered catharsis in the form of the poppiest, most joyful songs in the set. “Lullaby” opened the final run of nine songs, with “The Walk” soon following, both of those performed beautifully by Smith and the band.
The reference to preparing oneself for bed and the glaring light on white walls evoke a sense of confinement and disorientation. “Charlotte Sometimes” is a hauntingly beautiful song with atmospheric instrumentation and cryptic lyrics. Robert Smith, the lead singer of the Cure and the songwriter of the song, was inspired by a book with the same name by Penelope Farmer. The novel is about a girl named Charlotte who goes to sleep in 1958 and wakes up in a different time and place.

You'll be sharing your vacation with hordes of other people, of course — as many as 6,000 on some MSC Cruises vessels. However, even the biggest MSC Cruises ships have quiet nooks where you can escape the crowds. With the even pricier "Aurea" experience, you'll get complimentary access to the spa's thermal area, priority boarding and other perks. The Aurea experience also comes with access to My Choice dining and an exclusive sun deck area that on many ships features an exclusive bar and hot tubs. Note that if you book the Bella experience, you cannot select a specific cabin. You can only choose between the broad categories of inside, ocean-view or balcony cabin, and a cabin is later assigned to you.
MSC loyalty program: Voyager’s Club
MSC Cruises offers a range of shore excursions, from city tours to adventure activities, but these will all come at an extra cost. Because of this, MSC has introduced the MSC Fun Pass, which covers the cost of activities like bowling, the XD interactive cinema, formula one racing simulators and more. The Fun Pass’ price varies depending on the ship and when you purchase it—for example, if you purchase the pass before boarding, you can earn additional credits and a 20% discount. These work like a debit card, so anyone in your party can use the pass for onboard activities and it can be reloaded throughout your trip. Dining is a significant part of every cruising experience, and MSC Cruises takes this seriously. On each ship you will find a range of eateries, from formal dining rooms to casual buffets and specialty restaurants.
Why I left Royal Caribbean for MSC Cruises - Cruise Blog
However, there are still plenty of drinks that are strategically priced above $16, making this package far from all-inclusive. Additionally, most of the champagne and decent wine on board is significantly more than the limit allowed by this package. It’s hard to make sense of this package unless your tastes are squarely within the more premium liquor brands included. Any beverages up to $10 are included in this package which gets you all of the beer options, more wine options, and some frozen drink options that aren’t available in the most basic drink package. There is also a larger range of liquor brands, cordials, and martinis available at this price point. The sale, which was extended and must be booked by April 18, offers cruises starting at just $179 per person, according to MSC.

It’s important to understand what each package includes and excludes before making a decision. Drink packages range in price and offerings from an alcohol free/minors’ package (roughly $30 per person per day) to a premium extra package (roughly $100 per person per day). Drink packages on MSC cruises include an 18% gratuity and each person in a cabin must have purchased a package.
About the drink packages:
You'll find original Broadway-style musicals, piano concerts and even operas. Together, the 14 World, Meraviglia, Seaside and Fantasia Class vessels make up MSC Cruises' big-ship fleet. The line's remaining eight vessels, split among two classes, are considerably smaller, with maximum occupancy topping out at 2,700 to 3,200 passengers. If that sounds like too many ships to get your head around, note that all 22 of the vessels in operation, as well as the three on order, fall into six distinct classes. The ships within each of the classes have similar sizes and onboard attractions. All the North America-based ships are marketed heavily to Americans, and the line has tailored some of the features and activities on the vessels to a North American crowd.
From weekend getaways to family cruise vacations, a world of discovery awaits with MSC Cruises. Choose from 23 modern cruise ships sailing to over 250 of the world’s most sought-after travel destinations that offer something for every traveler. Swim and snorkel in turquoise waters on a Caribbean cruise, relax on the beaches of Bermuda or The Bahamas (including our private island, Ocean Cay MSC Marine Reserve), or visit the picturesque ports of Canada & New England. And for a unique luxury travel experience, the MSC Yacht Club is a ship-within-a-ship that features private access, 24-hour butler service, exclusive venues, and more. MSC Cruises offers a variety of drink packages for their cruises, including the “Easy” package, “Easy Plus” package, “Premium Extra” package, an Alcohol-Free package for minors, and a Minors package. The packages range in price and offerings, with the Easy Plus package allowing for more choices and access to specialty dining restaurants.

In Europe, the line offers onboard programming in all five of these languages (all crew members speak English no matter where the ships are sailing). In a typical summer, the line will deploy the vast majority of its ships in the Mediterranean or northern Europe. In recent years, the line has also kept at least a couple of ships in Florida in summer for voyages to the Caribbean and the Bahamas.
You'll earn 100 points for every $150 in prepaid and onboard expenses. You must be at least 21 years old to consume alcohol on sailings in the U.S. and the Caribbean. It's important that the name on your reservation is listed exactly as it appears on your passport or other official proof of nationality.
MSC cruises are not entirely inclusive, though they do provide a lot with your base package. This includes your cabin, food, live entertainment, port stops and coffee, tea and water. They don’t include specialty drinks such as soda or alcohol, nor do they include Wi-Fi or any port excursions you’d like to go on. There are different packages available to those who are sailing which can be purchased before you travel or during your cruise. MSC doesn’t publish its Wi-Fi package pricing online, but for example, you can expect to pay around $270 for a two-device upgraded Wi-Fi package on a seven-day cruise with MSC Seascape. Neither Wi-Fi nor specialty drinks are included as part of the base price, but they can be purchased separately.
There are also Broadway-style shows (there are six unique shows per week!), comedy and magic performances, as well as movies and sporting events on the big screen. With this beverage package, you can order drinks in specialty dining restaurants as well as anything included in the above Easy package. Once on board an MSC Cruises ship, you'll pay extra for most drinks, extra-charge restaurants, spa services, shore excursions, internet and a few other amenities — unless you've paid up for a more inclusive package. Like Royal Caribbean and Norwegian Cruise Line, MSC Cruises has been building big resortlike vessels that offer every sort of amusement known to humans, from giant water parks to race car simulators. It currently operates eight of the 20 biggest cruise ships in the world — one of which (MSC Meraviglia) now calls North America home with year-round sailings out of New York City. Each evening a detailed program for the following day will be delivered to your cabin.
The Easy Plus Package can be enjoyed in the bars, buffet, main restaurant and specialty restaurants, Ocean Cay, and other exclusive destinations. The Easy Package covers all of the above served in the bars, buffet and main restaurant as well as Ocean Cay and other exclusive destinations. While this package covers most top-shelf liquor, there are still quite a few wines and drinks that are more than $16, so it’s not as inclusive as other cruise lines’ most premium drink packages. One step up is the more expensive "Fantastica" experience, which adds room service and breakfast delivered to your cabin, priority choice of dinner sittings, access to additional kids activities and classes, and more. At this level and above, you can pick a specific cabin when booking. For instance, at the time of publication, four-night sailings from Miami to the Bahamas in September 2024 start at just $249 per person, not including taxes and fees of $100.
If you are planning to travel on MSC cruises, check out how much it costs. If you are wondering how to find the best cruise deals, you are in the right place. The MSC Cruises website is constantly updated with the best cruise offers of the moment, from all-inclusive cruises to last-minute cruise deals including cruise discounts and special offers. These prices will vary if booked on the ship on the day of sailing. Most premium liquors can be purchased with this package including Grey Goose, Aviation Gin, Belvedere, etc. (see the menu below).
You can now get a credit towards any drinks not included in your MSC Drink package!. The credit towards a drink is $8 per drink for the Easy Package, $10 per drink for the Easy Plus Package, and $16 per drink for the Premium Extra Package. This is the package that was included on my Meraviglia cruise with the base cruise fare. Initially, this seemed like a good option as it covers the basics, but some restrictions were inconvenient enough to make me upgrade to the Premium Plus.
No matter what package you purchase, all food and entertainment is included, as is access to the main parts of the ship. This includes pools, the buffet restaurant and a nightly seated dinner. Those planning a Northern Europe voyage from Kiel to Copenhagen on MSC Fantasia can choose to stay from a wide range of accommodations. Generally, these costs are inclusive of accommodation and access to certain dine-in restaurants, on-deck activities, and entertainment options. Furthermore, since this ship is suitable for families, you can also expect various teen and kids-appropriate activities. One can also enhance their cruise experience by booking off-shore activities while confirming their booking.
MSC for Me Chat allows passengers to communicate with each other without purchasing an internet package. MSC Orchestra is a huge vessel that can accompany over 3000 guests and 900+ crew members. This ship has sixteen decks in total, and on each deck, you can find accommodation, dining areas, activity zones, etc. If you want to add further excursions, you may have to pay extra along with your basic fare. MSC Orchestra sails to many destinations, and its rate changes accordingly.

Everyone who comes to this isolated continent must ‘earn it’, none more so than those embarking on an expedition cruise from South America’s “Land of Fire”, Tierra del Fuego, bound for Antarctica’s antithetical “Land of Ice”. Tourists have been visiting Antarctica in small numbers since 1966, when adventure tour pioneer Lars-Eric Lindblad led a small group of "citizen scientists" to the Antarctic Peninsula on a chartered Argentine navy ship. But for many of the 56 years since then, a trip to Antarctica has meant a sailing on a relatively spartan vessel.
Record cloud types, observe wildlife and help collect important data for research projects. Floating everywhere in these pristine waterways are fragments of the continent’s frozen surface. From gargantuan icebergs that dwarf our ship to billowy blankets of brash ice crackling in the wake of our Zodiacs, ice is the ever-present backdrop of our voyage. In the island of South Georgia, seabirds and marine mammals are counted in the millions. The island’s beaches are packed with fur seals and elephant seals jostling for space alongside innumerable king penguins. Named after the legendary Norwegian explorer, Roald Amundsen - the first man to traverse the Northwest Passage in 1903, and reach the Geographical South Pole in 1911.
On your camping night you can take the time to fully experience whatever joy Antarctica holds for you. You will also gain undeniable bragging rights, lasting memories, and a newfound appreciation for your warm bed back on the ship. Massive, rugged, gleaming white mountains—covered on all but their sheerest faces by permanent snow and innumerable glaciers—rise from deep blue waters to form protected bays and scenic passages such as the renowned Lemaire Channel. When the conditions are right, there's no better way to cross the frozen terrain than by wearing snowshoes. Our modern equipment makes it easy to walk on the soft snow, and the elements are usually best during our late spring and early summer Antarctica cruises. Join Oceanwide on an Antarctic expedition cruise, and experience exploration in its native environment.

In these areas you also have the opportunity to appreciate modern human ingenuity at scientific research stations of various nationalities. Some of these stations, such as Port Lockroy, even boast a museum, gift shop, and post office. Before leaving for your voyage, please make sure anything you bring that may come into contact with the environment (clothes, equipment, etc.) is thoroughly cleaned and disinfected.
We bring top scientists aboard and encourage our passengers to participate in their research. Our polar team will share their enthusiasm for Antarctica, while the expedition leader and captain will create the best routing possible. The islands boast a great abundance and diversity of birdlife including five species of penguin.
In the South Shetland Islands and Antarctic Peninsula you can go ashore at sites where gentoo, chinstrap, and adélie penguins come together in boisterous nesting colonies. Meeting with an inquisitive penguin chick is an experience not to be forgotten. You might assume that the Drake Passage was first sailed by British explorer Sir Francis Drake, but the truth behind this waterway’s somewhat misleading name is just one of many interesting facts about the passage. On the southern-most tip of the planet rests one of the world's most massive and mysterious landmasses - the frozen realm of Antarctica. Support the scientific community in collecting valuable data on Antarctica that contributes to global research by participating in our Citizen Science Programme. An Antarctic cruise means visiting a part of Earth that has remained largely unchanged since Aristotle first gave rise to the notion of Terra Australis, or the ”Land of the South”.
